The Charles City Public Library welcomed in October on Tuesday as the Get Messy program had kids making leaf art.

“It’s something we haven’t done before,” said children’s librarian Stacey Leerhoff.

Enjoying the cool October day, the kids collected leafs from outside the library and brought them in to paint and press, creating artistic displays and bookmarks to enjoy for fall.

Kids weren’t the only group that got to paint either. The library had a busy day of activities on Tuesday as Meredith Hamm came in during the evening for the monthly pottery painting session.

Meanwhile, Lisa Chatfield hosted an evening board game program, which invites people to come in on the first Tuesday of the month to play classic games or learn unique modern games.

Along with regular weekly programming like Tuesday’s Tech Time, Wednesday’s Early Out Fun and Thursday’s Stories and More, there was even more going on at the library this week thanks to a special presentation by the Cedar River Readers.

Based out of Waverly, the volunteer group came up to Charles City to entertain with lively performances of children’s stories, featuring costumes and props to go along with the narration.

Programming will continue next week as the Get Messy kids will learn how to make homemade bubblegum.
