Charles City hair stylist opens new salon

A new hair salon has opened up in Charles City.

Beard and Beauty Bar is a new business from Linsey Koenigs of Charles City and Janice Harn of Nashua.

With 13 and six years of hair cutting experience between them, the duo previously worked together at Great Clips in Waverly before deciding to go into business for themselves.

“We wanted to do more than haircuts,” said Koenigs.

Finding a building on South Grand Avenue, Koenigs and Harn set-up their new shop and opened their doors on Oct. 1.

“It’s been scary, but awesome,” said Harn. “I’m excited to meet people in Charles City.”

Along with haircuts, Beard and Beauty Bar offers beard trims, coloring, waxing, styling and perms. Koenigs and Harn are also welcoming suggestions of other services that customers may want.

The challenges of opening up a new business have been somewhat mitigated by an unexpected windfall. Just days before opening their doors, Koenigs and her family received a $250,000 lottery scratch ticket prize. Koenigs has used some of her share to get a jump on the start-up costs.

“That’s helped a lot,” she said.

Open Monday through Saturday, Harn and Koenigs are welcoming walk-ins and working to build a new customer base.
