The Charles City Lions Club is nearing the end of its annual Book Sale fundraiser.

Over the last two weeks Lions Club members have sold thousands of donated books to the community, generating about $4,000 that will go to support their scholarships and donations.

“It’s a great income generator for us,” said Brad Worrall. “The children’s books have done really well.”

This year, the club expanded the sale, giving greater flexibility for people to come in and browse their selection. Worrall says adding more days to the sale has been good for moving more of their books.

“We started with a lot of books,” he said.

“We still have a lot of books, but fewer,” said Brad Miller.

Saturday will be the final day of the sale, after which the Lions Club will begin packing up the remaining books. However, where they go from there has yet to be decided.

For several years the book sale has been held at a city-owned building in the 800 block of North Main Street. However, this will be the last year for the sale at that location.

The club is on the hunt for both a place to store their books until next year and a place to sell them for next year’s sale.

“If anybody has any suggestions or offerings, we certainly would be interested in discussing that,” said Worrall.
