The Charles City Police Department said farewell to Investigator Brad Bilharz, who retired on Friday, Oct. 18, after 22 years with the department.
“I’ve been waiting for it to come, but it’s sad, too,” said Bilharz at his retirement party at City Hall.
Bilharz, who has been with the Charles City Police Department since September 2002, said he’s relieved to be done with a difficult job, but he’ll miss all of the friends he’s made in the department.
“We’re definitely going to miss Brad,” said Captain Brandon Franke. “He’s done an excellent job for the 22 years he’s been here. And he can fix anything, so we’re definitely going to miss him.”
Bilharz’ propensity for fixing things will not go unused. After a weekend of retirement, he started on Monday his new job as a maintenance worker with the city housing authority.
“What am I going to do, sit at home?” joked Bilharz.
