Kids Trunk-or-Treat in Charles City

On a cold and windy Halloween evening, rather than going house-to-house around their neighborhoods, families lined up to do “trunk-or-treating” at The Bridge Church.
For at least six years The Bridge Church has been offering an alternative to the Halloween trick-or-treat tradition, inviting volunteers to line up with decorated vehicles and distribute candy to kids in one location.
“We just want people to come to a safe place to trick-or-treat,” said Wendy Gerber, celebrate recovery director with The Bridge Church. “We usually have about 1,000 people that come through here.”
Gerber said that other churches in the community also do similar events, which helps distribute the crowd as costumed kids go from one to the other.
From individual volunteers to local businesses and community organizations, there were plenty of stops for the kids to make as they collected candy. Along with about 36 decorated vehicles distributing treats, kids also got to enjoy pony rides, train rides, and a bouncy castle while parents could warm up inside with cookies and cocoa.
