Floyd County will have a new county auditor come January as Morrigan Miller will take over for outgoing auditor Gloria Carr.

Running in the only contested countywide position in this week’s election, Miller, who ran as a Republican, received 4,441 votes (60.4%) over competing Democratic candidate Liz Hamm’s 2,905 (39.5%).

“I am so very thankful to the community and all the people that put work into this campaign,” said Miller on election night. It will be her first position as an elected public official.

Miller currently works at Van Wall Equipment in Greene and will be staying on for a few more weeks to ease the transition before starting to shadow Carr in December to learn the ropes of her new job.

Carr had made it known that this would be her last term as county auditor. She had first been elected in 2004 and has been reelected four times. Carr ran unopposed in this election for county supervisor representing District 1, and will take office in that position the first of the year.
