HS Drama Department performs ‘The Drowsy Chaperone’ at the Charles Theatre

Charles City went from the 2020s back to the 1920s as the Charles City High School Drama Department put on three performances of “The Drowsy Chaperone.”
Opening on Friday night, Nov. 8, with a second evening performance on Saturday and an afternoon encore on Sunday, the theater students brought the Broadway play to the stage of the Charles Theatre over the weekend, entertaining audiences with songs, dances and jokes set around a Roaring ’20s-styled story of romantic mishaps.
Featured in the play were the performing talents of Savannah Baldus, Kaity Heckers, Lilie Mohring, Gracie Opp, Blake Hoeft, Ally Wedeking, Jose Flores, Nyssa Salinas, Mikyla Sellers, Kayla Streich, Andrew White, Jacob Jones, Blake Dean, Alexia Clark, Norah Massawe, Xander Chase, Kati Haglund, Melanie Castaneda, Camryn Hoeft, Ana Tutu, Adeline King, Sean Jones, Benjamin Hammond, Kylie Pickar and Thane Howlett.
Addison Tracey served as the play’s stage manager with Natalie Keyes as assistant stage manager; Braelynn Painter on sound; Jenna Aikey on lights; Lisa Ryan and Leah Dettmer on hair and makeup; and JoJo Ibarra, Joe Schoeneman, Katie Soifer and Sabrina Willsher as crew.
The high school students put on the show under the supervision of Stage Director Erika Joiner and Musical Director AJ Weber, along with Jenna Haglund as assistant director, Dani Cavanaugh on choreography, Lynn Bauer on hair and makeup and Linda Hughes on costumes.
