The Charles City High School Music Department put on its fall choir concert on Tuesday, Nov. 12, in the Comet Gym.
The concert began with the Comet Choir, accompanied by Melanie Johanningmeier, performing “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” with soloists Emma Read and Sean Jones.
Following that, the high school students ceded the risers to Tim Mitchell and the Charles City Singers. Accompanied by Chris Burns, the singers performed “How I Can Keep From Singing.”
The two groups then came together for a combined choir rendition of the popular sea shanty, “The Wellerman.”
The high school concert choir then came up for “Shenandoah” and “Rejoice,” with soloists Kaity Heckers and Lucias Thompson.
Finally, the concert concluded with the combined choirs and alumni coming together for the Charles City school Alma Mater, conducted by Jose Flores and Blake Hoeft.
Directed by AJ Weber, the concert comes on the heels of several school musical performances, from the theatrical showing of “The Drowsy Chaperone” to Monday’s Veterans Day program.
“A lot of these kids have been performing for six days in a row,” said Weber.
Weber also recognized eight students who participated in this year’s All-State Choir qualifiers. Alexia Clark, Norah Massawe, Blake Hoeft, Jacob Jones, Lilie Mohring, Addison Tracey, Camryn Hoeft and Kaity Heckers all auditioned for All-State, with the latter two making it through to the All-State contest.
