Charles City Middle School students demonstrated what they’ve learned thus far this year during the middle school’s fall concert on Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Comet Gym.
“They’re doing very well,” said band instructor Renee Boss.
Directed by Boss and student teacher Matt Reis, the concert began with the fifth grade band’s first performance, featuring “Theme and Variations on Hot Cross Buns,” the traditional Beethoven piece “Ode to Joy,” and “Big Beat Boogie.”
The sixth grade band set up next with “To a New Beginning,” “Gentle Winds,” and “Dragonfire.”
Finally, the concert closed with the seventh and eighth grade band’s performance of “Above and Beyond,” “At Peace,” and “Crosswinds March.”
During the concert, Boss thanked the school administration for supporting the music program, citing that Charles City goes above-and-beyond in accommodating personal instruction time.
“Without them advocating for us and the these kids, we would not be so fortunate,” said Boss.
Boss also gave recognition to the Charles City Fine Arts Century Club, which financially supports the music program, and the grounds crew, who help set up for the concert.
As for the students themselves, Boss commended the 10 students that participated in honor band this year.
“They did a fine job representing our school,” said Boss.
