Glow-in-the-dark pep rally will kick off CCHS winter sports season Nov. 25

To The Press

A glow-in-the dark pep rally is being planned to kick off the Charles City Comets’ winter sports season.

This year, the annual “Black and Orange Blowout” is evolving into the “Comets Glow Rally,” showcasing all the winter sports teams, according to boys basketball head coach David Rottinghaus.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25, in the Comet Gym at Charles City Middle School, with the goal of igniting Comet school spirit and rallying support for the school district.

It will be “an unforgettable evening of school spirit, team pride and glowing fun,” Rottinghaus said.

“Fans of all sports are encouraged to come decked out in neon colors and bring their favorite glow-in-the-dark accessories to light up the night,” he said. “Let’s show our Comet pride like never before!”

The event is free to attend, but fans are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to support the local food pantry.

The night kicks off with crowd-engaging activities led by the Spirit Team, followed by a glow dance performance by Charles City’s Dance Arts Center.

The boys and girls bowling teams will be introduced, and the girls and boys wrestling squads will showcase their skills in a live practice session.

Next will be the introduction of the freshman and JV girls and boys basketball teams, followed by the finale – the introduction of the boys varsity basketball team and a scrimmage.

“A DJ will keep the beats pumping from the sidelines, while black lights illuminate the gym for a glowing, unique experience,” Rottinghaus said. “This event is fun for the whole community, with a special invitation for our youth to join in the excitement.

“Join us for an evening of fun, excitement, and community pride,” he said. “Let’s make it a night to remember!”
