Get Messy wands conjure a busy month for the library

It was a magical Get Messy on Tuesday, Dec. 3, as kids made Harry Potter-themed wizard wands at the Charles City Public Library.
With a variety of craft materials to pick from, kids were left to their own imaginations in how they wanted to style and personalize their wands, coming up with designs to emphasize their magical specialty.
“I tried to get the kids to really think about what they wanted,” said Children’s Librarian Stacey Leerhoff. “Or you can just use lots of glitter and make it really sparkly.”
The Get Messy session was just the start of a busy month of activities at the library. Next week, the Get Messy program will have kids crafting gingerbread houses; Dec. 18 will feature an open house of the Mooney Gallery; the day after Christmas will see a Puzzle Race where teams will compete to put together a table puzzle; and Dec. 31 will celebrate “Noon Years” with an 11 a.m. party.
“We’re going to countdown to noon for people that don’t usually stay up that late,” said Leerhoff.
