There may not be snow outside, but that didn’t stop kids at the Charles City Public Library from making their own winter wonderland during the Get Messy program on Tuesday, Jan. 28.

“It’s winter, we have to at least pretend there’s snow,” said Children’s Librarian Stacey Leerhoff.

In a two-part crafting afternoon, kids made their own paper snowflakes decorated with sparkles and dried pasta before getting their hands messy with artificial snow made out of baking soda and hair conditioner.

By mixing the household items together, they were able to make miniature snowmen and enjoy a small snowball fight, leaving with their hands well moisturized rather than frost bitten.

Coming up at the library, there will be big weekend plans for Cabin Fever as an activity with Bluey will be featured on Saturday morning, followed by Nerf Night later in the day.

Next week for the Get Messy program, the kids will be able to make Shrinky Dinks.

It may be too warm to build a snowman outside, but kids still got to play in the snow inside, making fake snow during the library’s Get Messy program.
