Tax season is upon us as ISU Extension is once again offering assistance to qualifying individuals and families through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
“It’s a great program trying to get money back in people’s pockets,” said Amy Leaman, office manager for Floyd County Extension.
Starting this week, the extension office is offering free tax services for low-to-moderate income residents who want help with simple returns.
“We have four really great volunteers that have all taken tests with the IRS,” said Leaman.
Qualifying incomes must be below $67,000 and have limited small business returns and no rental or farm income. Appointments can be made for any Tuesday from now until the end of March by calling 641-228-1453.
Filers will need to bring a photo ID and Social Security card for every individual listed on the return, all income documents for 2024, a 2023 tax return, and a PIN number for those who have been victim of identity theft.
