The Charles City Board of Adjustment approved a conditional use permit to allow the Best Budget Inn to be converted into a series of studio apartments during its meeting on Monday, March 3.

The approval includes a set of conditions discussed during the previous meeting, where applicant Kevin Adelmund and the board discussed his plans for the property and its potential impacts on the surrounding area. Conditions included proof of payment for outstanding hotel/motel taxes and striping the property parking lot by July 1.

On Monday, following the meeting, Adelmund said he is on track to meet the conditions and move forward with plans to change the Best Budget Inn into “Charles City Studios.”

“We’re going to turn them into about 42 studio apartments,” said Adelmund.
