Families flocked to the Charles Theater this weekend to see funny fables fight and fumble their way through the “Game of Tiaras.”
Presented by the Charles City High School Drama Department, the stage play featured a cast of popular public domain characters locked in a parody of fantasy politics.
“Game of Tiaras” featured Kylie Pickar as Snow White and an animated snowman; Kati Haglund as Cinderella; Camryn Hoeft as Belle; Nora Massawe as Ellie the Snow Queen; Jacob Jones as the King; Blake Hoeft as Prince Charming; Blake Dean as the French Prince and an unnamed princess; Karina Ibarra and Adeline King as soldiers; Nyssa Salin as a guard; Savannah Baldus, Alexia Clark, Rylie Keys, Gracie Opp, Destiny Squier, and Ana Tutu in a number of supporting roles; Sean Jones and Melanie Rivera as the two narrators; Katie Soifer as the blood packet special effect; and AJ Weber as Smeagol.
Behind the scenes, Addison Tracey was the play’s stage manager, assisted by Natalie Keyes. Jenna Aikey and Jojo Ibarra were on lights while Braelynn Painter and Athena Dittmer were on sound. Hair and makeup was managed by Lynn Bauer with Lisa Ryan, Sabrina Willsher, Kayla Streich, Bobbie Soifer, Jo Schoeneman, and Aurora Babbitt.
The show premiered on the evening of Friday, April 4 with a second afternoon performance on Saturday, April 5.
Belle (Camryn Hoeft) riles up the peasants (Savannah Baldus and Alexia Clark) to spark her own revolution. The Charles City High School’s play was a real scream this weekend. Not even comic relief snowmen are safe from a violent end in the “Game of Tiaras.”The King (Jacob Jones) and his loyal servant (AJ Weber) get up to many misadventures across the “Game of Tiaras.”Heavy is the head that wears the crown, but the rest of the king (Jacob Jones) isn’t doing Smeagol’s (AJ Weber) back any favors either. The cold doesn’t bother Ellie the Snow Queen but her snow flaky minions do.Prince Charming (Blake Hoeft) and Cinderella (Kati Haglund) watch as the King (Jacob Jones) rides off into the sunset upon his servant, Smeagol (AJ Weber).A power couple for the ages, Prince Charming (Blake Hoeft) and Cinderella (Kati Haglund) prepare for a royal takeover in the “Game of Tiaras.”He likes bunnies.Belle (Camryn Hoeft) meets her not-so-beastly French Prince.Cinderella (Kati Haglund) has plans for her kingdom with Prince Charming (Blake Hoeft) and won’t let anybody get in her way…In a story filled with murder and war, the real killing happens on the dance floor. In the “Game of Tiaras” you either get ahead or you lose your head.Any resemblence to existing copyrighted characters in “Game of Tiaras” is probably coincidental.Even in a battle to the death, there are some lines you don’t cross because the Snow Queen (Norah Massawe) just can’t let it go.
