Charles City cleans up

It was a good week for spring cleaning as Charles City residents sought to clear out their clutter during the Citywide Spring Garage Sale.
“It’s been busy,” said Brandy Molitor, whose garage was full of clothing, toys, and other knickknacks to be rid of.
“It’s nice to get it out,” she said.
Starting a bit early this year, the garage sale officially kicked off on Wednesday, April 16, and concluded on Saturday so that families could be done in time for Easter celebrations.
Eighteen households signed up on the official list this year, prompting shoppers to tour the town looking for bargains.
Overlapping with the garage sale was the city’s Spring Cleanup Drop-off event, which started on Saturday, April 19.
The Shaw Avenue Dump was open over the weekend for residents to unload unwanted furniture, debris, tires, and more.
The site will remain open through the week from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. for drop-offs and on Saturday, April 26, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
For those who cannot make it out to the site themselves, volunteers with the Charles City Rotary Club, Lions Club and Charles City High School will be available to take items out to the dump on Wednesday. Call City Hall at 641-257-6300 to schedule a pickup.
