Kids swarmed the field around the Elks Lodge on Saturday for the organization’s annual Easter Egg Hunt.

Roughly 600 eggs for kids of all ages were placed around the lodge property waiting to be found.

“We got a couple of golden eggs out there for the kids,” said Leading Knight Casey Eaves, who spearheaded this year’s event.

Along with the regular candy-filled eggs, this year’s hunt featured some super-sized eggs and special gold eggs filled with money instead of candy.

It took six people a few hours to pack the eggs and another four volunteers a couple hours to place them ahead of the hunt.

At 11 a.m. precisely, the kids were let loose on the Elks grounds and by 11:04 the lawn had been all but picked clean as kids returned to the lodge to sort out their candy haul.

The Charles City Elks recently became recognized as the fourth largest club in the state, sporting more than 450 members.

“We’ve had a lot of growth,” said Eaves.

Now that the Easter egg hunt is over, the Elks are getting ready for its upcoming youth banquet, scheduled for Saturday, May 3.
