Churasan Okinawa Cuisine celebrated its first anniversary of full-time food service on Saturday, April 19.

One year ago, Megumi Abbott took the plunge in leaving her job to turn her food truck side gig into a full-time occupation. Since then, with the help of her friends and family, Abbott has been successfully bringing the food of her native home in Japan to Charles City, one sushi roll and bento box at a time.

In December, Churasan expanded into a permanent carry-out storefront, allowing the food truck to stay in operation throughout the winter months.

On Saturday, Abbott celebrated the one-year anniversary of going full time, offering special deals, limited-time yakitori skewers, and customer appreciation drawings.

“We had a very good turnout,” said Abbott. “We were super busy for the whole three hours.”
