The Charles City Arts Center is awash with color this month as it displays “Echoes of Kathmandu Valley” from featured artist Riva Nayaju.
“I am so excited about this art,” said Arts Center Director Emily Kiewel. “It’s fabulous.”
An architect and graphic designer who teaches at the University of Northern Iowa, Nayaju approached the Arts Center to showcase her collection of watercolor drawings of her homeland in Nepal.
Kiewel has spent the better part of the week turning the walls of the Arts Center into a giant color wheel, putting up 100 pieces of Nayaju’s watercolor artwork that show Nepalese architecture, both traditional and modern.
Nayaju will be at the Arts Center on Friday, May 2, to share insights and stories behind her work during the opening reception at 5 p.m.
While Friday will be the first chance to see the featured display, the public will have plenty of time to stop in. Rather than the usual month, this display will be up from May 2 through June 14.
“This will be our first six-week show,” said Kiewel.
