Charles City High School vocal performers celebrated the approaching end of the school year with a Choir Pops Concert on Tuesday, May 13, in the Comet Gym.

The color-themed program began with “Black or White,” a choreographed dance from the combined choir featuring a solo from Blake Hoeft.

Gracie Opp and Adeline King came out next for a duet of “Mr. Blue Sky” followed by Rhymes with Orange singing “Rhapsody in Blue” and another duet of Kylie Pickar and Emma Read performing “Over the Rainbow.”

The Comet Chorus welcomed a special guest to accompany them with their song as Kermit the Frog cameoed for a rendition of “Bein’ Green.”

Freshman Sean Jones, Jacob Jones’ brother, then took the floor for a solo performance of “Pink Skies.”

Soloist Lilie Mohring opened “Colors of the Wind” for the combined sopranos and altos of the choir while the full concert choir came out for “The Song of Purple Summer,” featuring solos from juniors Mikyla Sellers, Jacob Jones, Nyssa Salinas, and Andrew White.

Taking a break from the concert to recognizing the graduating seniors, Choir Director AJ Weber shared his thoughts and anecdotes about each of the 23 senior singers in the group. Aurora Babbitt, Savannah Baldus, Shaley Baltes, Jose Flores, Ellie Gassman, Kaity Heckers, Darian Hesse, Blake Hoeft, Neveah Jensen, Allen Johnson, Natalie King, Kerstin Kirsch, Tayleigh Lantz, Kaylee Loftus, Lilie Mohring, Gracie Opp, Jocelyn Schoeneman, Gage Slick, Mikaila Teepe, Lucias Thompson, Addison Tracey, Ally Wedeking, and Abby Willadsen all lined up as Weber sang their praises and recounted how they each contributed to the music program.

“There are so many seniors and I’m running out of compliments,” said Weber.

The seniors, in turn, presented Weber with a large poster board featuring their senior pictures.

The concert concluded with the combined choirs performing “True Colors” before inviting Charles City alumni down for the high school alma mater.
