The 52nd annual Art-a-Fest is set for Saturday, Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Central Park, and organizers are inviting artists, vendors, nonprofit groups and sponsors to take part in this year’s celebration of creativity and community.

A juried fine arts show, Art-a-Fest is one of Iowa’s longest-running art festivals, according to the Charles City Arts Council.

The 2025 Art-a-Fest logo was created by artist Crystal Nowak.

It features original artwork for sale, live performances, interactive activities for children, and food from a variety of local and regional vendors – all in a single-day, free event aimed at making the arts accessible to everyone.

New this year is an Emerging Artists Program, open to Iowa residents ages 18 to 26 who haven’t previously participated in a juried show.

Up to three young artists will be selected to share a booth provided at no cost, complete with tent, tables, chairs and display materials.

Participants will receive guidance from experienced artists and the top emerging artist will be guaranteed a complimentary spot at the 2026 festival.

Entry is $20, and applicants who are not selected will be refunded.

Applications are now being accepted in the following categories:

• Fine artists and nonprofits – apply by May 31.

• Emerging artists (ages 18-26) – apply by June 30.

• Food and service vendors – apply by July 31.

Fine artists must display and sell only original work in the categories in which they are accepted, according to information from the organization. Print reproductions of original pieces are allowed, but craft-based or commercially manufactured goods, kit art, or import items are not permitted.

Nonprofit organizations must support or incorporate the arts to be eligible. All participants must be present throughout the festival.

Craft vendors not meeting fine art criteria are encouraged to apply for the Charles City Farmers Market, which will operate in conjunction with Art-a-Fest from 9 a.m. to noon.

Organizers say Art-a-Fest plays a vital role in supporting artists and bringing art into the heart of the community.

Each year, area businesses and individuals help fund the event through sponsorships. Cash prizes are awarded to standout artists, and Art-a-Fest Bucks are given to lucky attendees to use toward artwork purchases.
