A collection of classic cars rode into Marble Rock this weekend as the Marble Rock Historical Society put on the fifth annual Relics and Rides car show on Saturday, May 24.
“It started out a little cloudy and cool, but we didn’t get any rain and it turned into a beautiful day,” said Historical Society President Diane Black.
New to this year’s show, the Historical Society opened it up to motorcycles and tractors, bringing in 49 entries in all.
“It filled up Main Street really nicely,” said Black.
Hot rods and roadsters lined the streets as people came out to enjoy both the classic rides and the historical buildings that the Historical Society maintains.
Along with enticements like free popcorn and root beer floats, visitors could get a passport to have stamped at each location and, once filled out, turn it in for a shot at a prize drawing.
After an afternoon of browsing up and down Main Street, the crowd gathered for the awards ceremony.
Winning the President’s Pick for his ’39 Chevy Coupe was Greg Townsley of Lyle, MN.
For the Mayor’s Choice award, George Nash of Rockford won with his ’67 Chevy Nova SS.
The favorite of sponsor Pat’s Bar and Grill was the ’67 Chevelle belonging to John Ross of Orchard.
And the CUSB Award went to Paul Sherman of Parkersburg for his ‘69 Plymouth GTX.
In the tractor category, Josh Staudt received the trophy for the Allis Chalmers D-15 belonging to his father, Shepard Staudt.
Finally, the winning motorcycle for the day was Jeff Buseman’s 2012 Harley Triglide.
The Relics and Rides show is just the start of a summer of vehicular activities in Marble Rock. Cruise Into Marble Rock will happen every other Friday starting on May 30.
