The Charles City Municipal Band kicked off its first concert of the season on Sunday, June 1.

Directed by Melissa Meyer, director of bands at Turkey Valley High School, the band’s 43rd season started with the performance of lively songs including patriotic classics from John Philip Sousa to pieces from “The Sound of Music.”

Originally intended to perform in Central Park, the band moved to its back-up venue at Trinity United Methodist Church due to air quality concerns.

The next concert, directed by Scott Stroud, is scheduled for Sunday, June 15.
