Incredible Bats fly into the library

Kids went batty over the Charles City Public Library’s Wonderful Wednesday program this week as naturalist Kim White stopped in to present her “Incredible Bats.”
Coming from the Chicago area, the Fort Dodge native said she is enjoying her trip back home to Iowa with a nine-city tour as she educates kids about animals.
Bringing along her bats, Togo and Zulu, White separated fact from myth for the kids, explaining to them what bats eat, where they live, how they see, and why they behave the way they do.
Along with her two batty companions, White introduced the kids to a selection of other critters accompanying her on her trip across the state.
“I want the kids to have more of an experience,” said White.
Chip, the three-banded armadillo; Spike, the bearded dragon; Sriracha, the red tegu; Groot, the blue-tongued skink; and Lucille, the ball python were all shown around the Zastrow Room.
This week won’t be the only week to see animals at the library. On Wednesday, June 18, the library will host the FFA Petting Zoo, and the following week, June 25, there will be a birds of prey demonstration.
