Charles City got lucky on Friday, June 13, as Main Street Charles City put on its second in this year’s series of Party in the Park.
“It’s a lovely evening,” said Community Development Director Mark Wicks. “Which two days ago we didn’t think it was going to be.”
Avoiding rain showers in the days both before and after, Friday’s event enjoyed a pleasantly sunny evening of music, food and games.
Providing live music throughout the evening was Rhythmic Rewind, a Des Moines-area group playing remixed “rock ’n’ soul” classics.
The premier sponsor of the party was Floyd County Medical Center, which offered everyone a spin at the wheel for a chance at free merchandise including cafeteria vouchers, planters and water bottles. And though they weren’t needed, umbrellas were even on the table as an option.
“FCMC is having a blast,” said Director of Marketing Makenzie McNeill. “We’re really honored to do this and continue to be a part of the Charles City community.”
More than just the weather was fair as well. Each park party this year will have a different theme, with Friday’s being a Street Fair.
In addition to the usual free games and activities in the park, volunteers staffed a series of carnival style games for kids to enjoy for a chance to win prizes.
“It’s just a new idea,” said Wicks. “The whole point is to get people together for a good time.”
Party in the Park is scheduled to return next week on Friday, June 27, and will feature a selection of inflatables for the kids.
