Charles City Challenge schedule may be flexible depending on river levels

The Charles City Challenge is slated for this weekend but high water levels in the Cedar River means that the exact schedule of activities may require attendees to go with the flow.
“All events and activities are subject to change based on water, weather or other circumstances,” said Charles City Tourism Director Ginger Williams.
Heavy rains over the last couple of weeks have the river running deep and moving fast. The Whitewater committee is monitoring the situation and will be making judgments about whether to reschedule or cancel activities on Friday.
“Surf clinics may move to Sunday based on water levels,” said Williams. “Watch Facebook for updates.”
Likewise, Saturday’s schedule may be adjusted on the fly depending on the condition of the river and weather.
In addition, attendees should note that parking options near the river this year will be slightly different as the parking lot running alongside the river adjacent to Hot Shots is being used for the City Hall renovation project.
The nearby library and church parking lot can be used for loading and unloading, but is otherwise reserved for vendors, staff, library patrons and church goers. Attendees are instead asked to use the nearby public parking lots along Clark Street.
