PAWS Dog Jog laps around Charles City

It was a nice night for a run around the river as PAWS Animal Shelter put on its Dog Jog on Friday, June 20.
Gathering at Tellurian Brewing, pets and their owners came together for an evening run to support the animal shelter.
“It’s just a fun event for the dogs and dog owners to get together,” said PAWS director Julie Taylor.
All-in-all, 56 adults, 15 children, and 32 dogs participated in the event, taking their choice of a 5K or one mile jog around the city.
“It was a really good turnout,” said PAWS board member Lanie Sanvig. “It cooled off, so that was really nice.”
The Dog Jog is one of the bigger fundraisers for the animal shelter. Funds raised during the event will go toward supporting the shelter’s veterinarian costs, from spaying and neutering to taking care of injuries and illnesses.
“We’ve had a lot of special needs animals coming in,” said Assistant Director Jacie Peichel.
Along with financial contributions, PAWS is also in need of volunteers willing to care for the cats and dogs at the shelter as they wait to be adopted.
For those interested in adopting a pet, a few of PAWS’ animals will be at Tellurian Brewing on Thursday, June 26, for the monthly PAWS meet-and-greet.
