Stony Point Players set for a spirited summer show

The Stony Point Players will take over the Charles Theatre this weekend as the community theater group presents its summer production of “Blithe Spirit.”
Written in the 1940s, the play is a three-act comedy about a novelist who becomes haunted by the ghost of his first wife after a séance gone wrong and the series of otherworldly high jinks that result.
“It’s been one of my favorite plays for years,” said Director James Severin.
The Stony Point Players have been practicing and preparing for the show since March, running through lines, setting up props, and working on sets.
The play stars Jess Bushman, Dani Cavanaugh, Jodi Holschlag, Lynn Bauer, Kevin Smith, Jenna Haglund and Yvonne Copper, with the support of stage managers Tina Schmidt and Kirah Vickerman. Linda Brant arranged the costumes; Cassidy Allison and Kati Haglund are on lights and sound, and set design is by James Severin, Murray Harris, Linda Brandt, Tina Schmidt, Sean Schweinfurth, and David Holschlag.
Severin says that the family friendly play should be fun for kids and adults alike.
“It’s suitable for all ages, so long as they’re not afraid of ghosts,” said Severin.
“Blithe Spirit” will open on Friday, June 27, at 7 p.m. with a second Saturday showing at 7 p.m. and a final showing on Sunday at 2 p.m.
