A presentation on human trafficking was held in the Charles City Public Library’s Zastrow Room on Monday, June 23.
Given by Tish Young of Chains Interrupted, an Iowa based non-profit that educates about human trafficking, the presentation taught about the different kinds of human trafficking and the signs to look for.
“I want you to understand it looks like a lot of things,” said Young.
From raising awareness about suspicious activity to recognizing signs of abusive relationships to monitoring online behaviors, Young ran through several kinds of scenarios to be aware of and preventive measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of threat.
The presentation was sponsored by local non-profit Magdalene’s Light, which is celebrating the one-year anniversary of opening its transitional home.
“It’s a topic that’s near and dear to all of the board members of Magdalene’s Light,” said board member Mark Jenkins, who noted that in the year since the transitional home began they have served 11 women.
