Kids soared into the Charles City Public Library on Wednesday, June 25, for a Wonderful Wednesday program about birds of prey.

Roughly 100 people gathered in the Zastrow Room as Linette Bernard of SOAR (Saving Our Avian Resources) brought in some feathered friends to teach the kids about raptors.

“I think they all did really well,” said Children’s Librarian Stacey Leerhoff. “She kept them engaged.”

With the aid of a sleepy screech owl and a robust red-tailed hawk, Bernard taught the kids about the biology and behaviors of birds along with how to protect their habitats.

The program was the last Wonderful Wednesday of the season for the library, but July has a busy schedule of activities.

On Tuesday, July 1, the Harry Potter Book Club will host an interactive movie showing open to anyone, and on Thursday, July 3, the library will have a special Get Messy event with bubbles at the park during Kids Day at 10 a.m. followed by a Mermaid Storytime at Lions Field Pool at 2:30 p.m.
