Sunday, Nov. 1
12:21 a.m. — Conducted business checks at local businesses in town. No issues were found while the officers were present.
1:02 a.m. — Went to the 2200 block of Clarkview Drive to answer questions about a no contact order.
1:32 a.m. — Arrested Calvin Patterson, 49, of Waterloo, for OWI – 1st offense after conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Gilbert Street and South Illinois Street.
1:35 a.m. — Responded to a report of a disturbance in the 700 block of Wisconsin Street. All was quiet when officers arrived.
2:28 a.m. — Went to North Cedar Terrace to assist a resident off the floor that had fallen.
3:27 a.m. — Spoke with a resident from the 2100 block of Clarkview Drive who had questions about their driver’s license.
10:23 a.m. — Responded to the 1100 block of Freeman Street for a report of a parking complaint.
Everything was OK upon the officer’s arrival.
10:30 a.m. — Responded to the 300 block of Shaw Avenue for a report of a suspicious person.
The caller said the driver dumped a deer carcass. The driver was cited for dumping the carcass and was made to remove it and find a better location for disposal.
11:14 a.m. — Went to the 200 block of 5th Avenue for a suspicious person. Officers were unable to locate the person in question.
11:29 a.m. — Went to the intersection of North Main Street and Clark Street for a two vehicle accident. A 2004 GMC Yukon driven by Carole Walter, 66, of Charles City, was northbound when it struck a 2008 Ford Edge. The Ford Edge was driven by Violet Steffen, 86, of Osage. Both vehicles were making a right turn onto Clark Street when they collided.
Estimated damage was $5,000.
No injuries were reported at the scene. No one has been cited as of yet. Incident is under investigation.
12:15 p.m. — Went to the 700 block of 7th Avenue for a report of a missing or stolen truck. The truck was later found at a friend’s house.
2:02 p.m. — Went to the 100 block of 15th Avenue for a welfare check. The subject was located and found to be fine.
2:11 p.m. — Went to the 300 block of 8th Avenue for a subject missing his vehicle. The officer found that a person had borrowed the vehicle would be returning it later that evening.
2:50 p.m. — Found a mountain bike on the walking trail near South Grand Avenue.
3:30 p.m. — Went to Shaw Avenue for a leaf fire in the compost area. The Charles City Fire Department put the fire out.
4:05 p.m. — Took a report of a 16-year-old who hadn’t come home in the 700 block of 6th Avenue. The child returned home a few hours later.
8:58 p.m. — Took a report of people running through the halls and banging doors closed in the 2100 block of Clarkview Drive.
11:39 p.m. — Responded to a report of a violation of a no contact order in the 300 block of 5th Avenue. Officer were unable to locate the person in question.
Monday, Nov. 2
4:28 a.m. — Spoke with a subject over the phone from Ames in reference to some harassment involving a resident from Charles City over the computer.
The officer will look into the harassment further with possible charges.
9:41 a.m. — Arrested Calvin Friend, 27, of Charles City, on a valid Floyd County arrest warrant for failure to appear for interference with official acts.
10:12 a.m. — Attempted to serve a nuisance violation notice in the 800 block of Howard Street. The resident was not home.
10:59 a.m. — Arrested Tracy Siverly, 33, of Charles City, on two Floyd County warrants in the 900 block of D Street.
The officers had responded to a stand by to keep the peace while a subject got tools from a residence.
11:25 a.m. — Responded to a report of a controlled substance found in the 900 block of Kelly Street. A subject had dropped the item in the business. Officers will try to identify the subject and file charges.
11:49 a.m. — Spoke with a person at the Police Department in reference to a possible theft committed with a forged check.
12:31 p.m. — Responded to the 100 block of North Jackson Street to conduct a welfare check on a person in the business. Everything was OK upon the officer’s’ arrival. The subject left the business after speaking with officers.
12:38 p.m. — Assisted a person who had fallen down and could not get up in the 100 block of 15th Avenue.
1:10 p.m. — Responded to a store in the 900 block of Kelly Street for a call of someone shoplifting. Upon their arrival, officers arrested Rick Pierce, 59, Charles City, and charged him with theft in the fifth degree.
2:14 p.m. — Responded to the 900 block of D Street for a report of a disturbance. Everything was OK upon the officer’s’ arrival. A subject was asked to leave the property.
2:48 p.m. — Spoke to another department about an ongoing case.
5:45 p.m. — Went to the 300 block of South Johnson Street for a possible domestic abuse. It was found to be a couple of people arguing. The officers spoke with them and worked out the differences.
6:20 p.m. — Took a report of a laser light being pointed in the sky which disrupted a flight of an airplane. The person pointing the laser was not located. If you have information on someone pointing lasers at airplanes, please contact the Police Department.
7:43 p.m. — Went to the 600 block of C Street for a welfare check.
All was found to be fine.
7:51 p.m. — Attempted to serve a nuisance violation in the 800 block of Howard Street. No one was located at the house.
8:17 p.m. — Went to the 900 block of D Street for a disturbance.
The other half of the argument left before officers arrived.
9:01 p.m. — Responded to a report of a suspicious person in the 2100 block of Clark Street. The officer was unable to locate the person in question.
10:35 p.m. — Took possession of an ID that was found in the Charles City area. The person was contacted by an officer.
