Open House: “Art as Elegy: The Works of John Price”

Granet Gallery will be hosting an open house for “Art as Elegy: The Works of John Price” on Friday, Nov.

20 from 5-7 p.m. This event is free, open to the public and refreshments will be served.

This retrospective exhibition is full of the vibrant work of a passionate naturalist and painter, John Price. His eye for detail of the uniquely Midwestern and East Coast flora and fauna is stunning. The works are currently on display and for sale. Granet Gallery is located at 1100 North Grand Avenue, Suite 100 and is open afternoons Tuesday through Saturday, 1-5:30 p.m.

Price (1919-2000) displayed a strong interest in developing his skills as a wildlife artist, spending after-school hours in his native Rockford, Ill.

sketching from the mounted collection of the Natural History Museum. Price created many of his original works while serving as an educational administrator and high school principal. His talents flourished during the last twenty years of his life as he traveled the United States and Europe and his work gained recognition across the country.

He created numerous original art works, illustrated numerous technical books and served as editorial consultant for college textbooks. His works were exhibited in galleries and art shows throughout the Midwest and on the East Coast, garnering numerous awards.
