The most wonderful time of the year

It’s wonderful – people intentionally go out of their way to be nice, decorate everything, yummy food is everywhere, there are parties to attend, and a special feeling in the air. There’s a hustle and bustle to the season that involves lots of planning and fantast ic memories. I love this time of the year.

Yet, it can be emotionally, financially, physically, and spiritually exhausting. Some years I’ve wished for the holiday season (Thanksgiving to New Year’s Eve) to be over before the schools let out for Winter Break; other years I’m heartbroken when the long, dark and cold days of January arrive marking the end of the season.

First Thessalonians 5:16-18 (NIV) 16 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. Reminds us that even in the chaos of life there are reasons to rejoice, pray, and give thanks.

Rejoice in the celebration of Jesus’ birth, fresh starts, time with loved ones, laughter, memories, and sunsets.

Pray for healing, patience, faith, joy, self-control, and the passion to make the world a better place.

Give thanks for the many blessings in life that we sometimes overlook – family, friends, pets, shelter, food on the table, and a place to belong. Most churches will begin their celebration of Advent and the Christmas season in a couple of days. I encourage you to find a church to call home and to remember to rejoice, pray, and give thanks.
