Are plastic eggs OK?

Dear Heloise: I loved your recipe for an OMELET IN A BAG. However, my question is: Are they safe and healthy (the eggs interacting with the plastic)? My grandkids thought it was great fun to cook the eggs that way (with delicious results), but their mom was a bit concerned about the safety.

Tell Mom the answer is yes, it’s OK to “boil eggs in a bag,”

if the bag is made specifically

for such. These bags are available on the Internet through commercial foodsupply companies. Note: Only two eggs per bag; cook time 13 minutes.

As for a regular bag, I tested and tried this many times, with great success. However, there is some concern today about using a regular food bag in boiling water, but as far as I can find out, there's no definitive

answer. HELOISE UPDATE: You can safely use a bag made to “STEAM” food in the microwave. I tested (several times) two medium eggs, on high, for about 1:30, and they came out perfect! Why waste 13 minutes boiling water when 1 1/2 minutes in the microwave does it?

CELERY STICKS Dear Heloise: Thanks for your great advice in The Dallas Morning News.

Celery only fits crosswise

in my vegetable drawer, and carrot bags have some that are really large. I cut about 3 inches off the stalk and make celery sticks. I make carrot sticks with the really large carrots. Crisp both in ice water. They disappear when readily available.
