Meeting to help teach homeowners about radon risks
Meeting to help teach homeowners about radon risks
Free meeting planned for Tuesday, Jan. 19 at New Hampton Extension Office
Special to the Press
An odorless, colorless gas could be causing a serious health hazard in your home.
The Chickasaw County Environmental Health Office and Chickasaw County ISU Extension will be hosting an informational program about radon at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at the Extension Office, 104 E. Main St., New Hampton.
Behind smoking, radon is the leading cause of lung cancer. The gas that occurs naturally under certain soil conditions is estimated to cause thousands of death each year. Chickasaw County and the entire state of Iowa are considered at high risk for elevated radon levels.
A lung cancer survivor will speak about her experience with radon and information will be available on testing and reducing the risk in your home during this free program.
For more information about the meeting or about radon, please call the Chickasaw County Environmental Health Office at (641) 394-2406.
