Esthetician Kayla Haberkorn has a few services up her sleeves for clients looking to improve their skincare routines.
Based out of Sharp Kuts Salon on Gilbert Street, Haberkorn has been operating BeYoutifully You Spa since August to offer facials, chemical peels and exfoliations, and sugaring for hair removal for clients. She also sells product lines out of her office, such as Alexandria and Dermalogica, which she used at Capri College in Waterloo before graduating this June.
“We learned with this line at school, and I never really knew much about skincare until I went to school and learned, and it really changed the look of my skin and the quality of my skin,” Haberkorn said. “I fell in love with it and I want to share it with everybody.”
Haberkorn uses the Dermalogica line both in her services and offers them at retail for clients to use between appointments.
Her services are customizable depending on clients’ needs and skin types, Haberkorn said.
“I also do a back treatment, which is like a facial for your back, it’s a relaxing service. You get a light massage, a cleanse, exfoliation before you leave,” Haberkorn said.
Haberkorn uses a sugaring paste process instead of wax for hair removal, which is an all-natural alternative to waxing.
“It doesn’t get hot, there’s no chances of cross-contamination,” Haberkorn said. “It won’t burn you, it won’t take off skin so you will never have anything ripped off.”
The process pulls out hair in the direction of hair growth to pull it out from the root, she added, which cuts down on ingrowns and makes hair grow back thinner if used regularly.
“You have a good chance of achieving permanency if you stick to it on a regular basis,” Haberkorn said.
Most of her job goes back to educating clients on the services and what kind of treatments best suit their needs, Haberkorn said.
“As far as issues with facial products, there’s so much out there that people are thrown at,” she said. “Your skin type is important to know for proper product use, if you use products for oily skin and you have dry skin you’re actually hurting your skin. So you need to know what skin type you are.”
“It’s educating your client on the right steps, the right ingredients for them specifically, and it’s nice because you can always customize for each individual person,” she added.
The product lines retail for between $20-80, and are professional-grade items which can last for up to six months, Habercorn said. Her professional services cost between $10-85, and she runs monthly specials that can be found on her spa website and Facebook page (@BeYOUtifullyYouSpa).
Clients can set appointments by calling Habercorn at Sharp Kuts Salon, 641-330-5754, or booking online at www.beyoutifullyyouspa.com. Her calendar online allows clients to see what times she is booked and what times appointments are available, from Tuesday to Saturday. Sharp Kuts Salon is located at 1410 Gilbert Street in Charles City.
It’s a business that lets her build relationships with her customers, Habercorn said.
“I get to share with people products that they’ve never heard of or never used, a new routine to help them battle any complications or issues that they feel they have, and I get to meet new people and get to know them on a business level and personal level,” Haberkorn said. “I’ve already met in the two months I’ve been here some amazing people that I’ve developed friendships with, and I just love what I do all around.”
