Totes use rolling out starting Monday

Press Staff Report

Starting Monday, Jendro Sanitation will begin picking up totes instead of bags of trash from Charles City residents’ yards.

Garbage will be picked up once a week and recycling will be picked up every other week.

The Charles City Council approved a contract with Jendro Sanitation to switch to rolling totes for city garbage and recycling collection, effective April 1, after several months of discussion and preparation.

The orange bags previously used will no longer be needed unless a household has garbage in excess of the amount that will fit in the tote.

Totes have been dropped off at more than 3,000 households by Jendro and the Charles City Street Department, with the last ones delivered this week.
