The Charles City Arts Center welcomed people in for its first exhibit of the year with an open house reception on Friday, Feb. 2.
The February exhibit features the work of artist Juliette Daley of Fairfield, who brought in a selection of abstract drawings and oil paintings to display.
“A lot of these have to do with memories of Canada,” said Daley, who said she drew inspiration from her homeland in her art.
Daley had previously visited Charles City last year when her daughter’s work was on display, and said she was happy to bring in her own art to be featured.
“I think Emily [Kiewel] did a nice job,” said Daley. “It’s really a nice little town.”
Along with featuring Daley’s work, the Arts Center will be hosting a spoken word event on Friday, Feb. 16. The “From the Heart” poetry event will start at 5 p.m., inviting people still in the Valentine’s Day spirit to express themselves or listen to others express themselves with their favorite poems, prose and songs.
