Marble Rock child who wandered off is located after search

To The Press

A missing Marble Rock child was located earlier this week after a little more than a hour after a search that involved a wide range of area public safety groups.

The Floyd County Sheriff’s Office reported that it received a call at about 9:27 Monday evening, April 1, that a child had left a residence in the 100 block of North Main Street in Marble Rock after a parent had fallen asleep. It was estimated the child had been missing for about an hour.

“A few small search teams were sent out immediately involving law enforcement, fire departments, first responders and the public,” according to Chief Deputy Patrick Shirley with the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office.

At about 10:32 p.m. a Marble Rock resident found the child not far from the child’s residence, the report said.

“The child was attended to by medical personnel on scene and eventually transferred to Mercy in Mason City to be checked for hypothermia,” Shirley said.

He said the Sheriff’s Office was assisted by a large group of agencies that included the Iowa State Patrol, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office, Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Charles City Police Department, Greene Ambulance, AMR Ambulance, Marble Rock Fire Department, Floyd County Search and Rescue, Marble Rock First Responders and Floyd County Emergency Management.
