Woman killed in early morning crash on Avenue near Nora Springs

A woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday morning on the Avenue of the Saints near Nora Springs, the Iowa State Patrol reported.

A 2022 KIA SUV was eastbound on U.S. Highway 18 at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, near Exit 195 to Nora Springs, when the vehicle “left the roadway and entered the median for an unknown reason,” the report said.

“The vehicle struck a bridge pillar and became fully engulfed in flames,” the State Patrol report said. “The vehicle was occupied by one person who was found to be deceased in the vehicle.”

As of Thursday evening the State Patrol office in Mason City reported that the identify of the person killed in the crash had not yet been released.

Also assisting at the scene were the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, Worth County Sheriff’s Office and Nora Springs Ambulance.
