A Charles City man accused of stealing more than $10,000 worth of property from a local housing authority is scheduled to appear in court next month for a plea change hearing.
Dakota James Christensen, 32, is charged with first-degree theft, a Class C felony, in connection with a Sept. 18, 2024, incident involving property belonging to the Charles City Housing Authority.
According to the criminal complaint, Christensen used for his own personal use approximately $3,900 worth of Menard’s rebate cards that had been issued to the housing authority. He was also accused of taking about $9,310 of tools, equipment and building materials for his own use while he was employed by the Charles City Housing Authority.
Christensen was arrested in October and he entered a plea of not guilty on Nov. 12. A jury trial was initially scheduled for Jan. 22, 2025, but was later postponed.
On May 27, the court set a plea hearing for July 21 at 10 a.m. in Floyd County District Court.
