Margaret Godderz Blanck

Margaret Godderz Blanck, 86, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

A funeral service for Margaret Blanck will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Jane Keel officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017 and will continue one hour before the service at the funeral home on Friday.

Margaret Maria Henrietta (Mohring) Godderz Blanck, the daughter of Otto and Bertha (Thiem) Mohring, was born November 19, 1931 in Charles City where she received her education and graduated from high school. She worked various jobs in downtown Charles City and eventually became co-owner of Hilltop Café with her sister Myrtle. Margaret later bought her sister’s portion of the business and was sole owner of Hilltop Café with over 30 years of total service in the restaurant business.

Margaret enjoyed sewing clothing and was an excellent cook and baker (especially pies, scalloped potatoes and ham, cinnamon rolls and her specialty, pumpkin bread). She was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Charles City Twisters (a square dance group).

Living family members include her son, Duane (Sandra) Godderz of Rudd; daughter, Pat Kruger of Charles City; seven grandchildren: Kelsey (Justin) Ahrens, Kraig (Aimee) Kruger, Ryan Godderz, Evan (LeAnn) Godderz, Kendra Godderz, Jessie Godderz and Harley (Jessica) Godderz; nine great-grandchildren: Megan, Kameron, Noah, Daniel, Emma, Haley, Morgan, Luca and MaKenna; brother, Ervin Mohring; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Nathan Blanck; son, David Godderz; son-in-law, Kerry Kruger; granddaughter, Karmen; three brothers: Ernest, Otto and Alfred Mohring; and two sisters: Doris Banks and Myrtle Sherbon.
