Sylvia Smith

Our beloved, sweet mother, Sylvia Smith, passed away on May 21, 2019, at St. Therese Home, New Hope Minn. Sylvia was born on Aug. 7, 1924 to Sophie and Franklin Havranek. She attended Charles City school, and graduated from Rockford High School. She worked for several Rockford businesses, DeBuhr Jewelry, O’Neill Grocery, Turner Cafe, Hemp Plant, Rockford Brick and Tile and Rockford Golf Course. She worked 18 years as a cook at RRMR school.

She married Donald Smith in 1947. Together they had four children. She loved music and dancing. A lot of her nights were spent dancing to the Big Bands at the Surf Ballroom. In her later years she could be seen nodding her head and taping her toes, stating “Boy we loved to dance”. Sylvia is survived by her Children: David and Sandy Smith; Mike and Donna Smith, Rockford; Marty and Julie Smith, Council Bluffs; and Mary and Steve Kielty, Ramsey, Minn.
