Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Kellogg

Elizabeth “Betty” Kellogg, 94, of Charles City, IA died on Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2020 at 11th Street Chautauqua Nursing Home in Charles City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. with a one hour prior visitation on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Ln, Charles City. Rev. Msgr. James Miller will be officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City. Those who plan to attend are kindly asked to practice social distancing guidelines and to wear a mask. In expression of sympathy, memorials may be sent to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Elizabeth was born on Jan. 30, 1926 in rural Butler County to Charles and Mary (Downing) Price. She attended rural school in Greene and graduated from Greene High School in 1943. On July 28, 1946 she was married to Donald Kellogg at the St Mary’s Church Parsonage in Greene.

Betty worked at the former Jacob’s Elevator as a Bookkeeper and retired in 1988. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, St. Jude’s Circle, Sacred Heart Guild and Rosary Society. Betty was a lifetime VFW Auxiliary member and served many state office positions.

She was very active in the community and volunteered at the Floyd County Hospital as an escort from admissions and also in the gift shop. Betty belonged to Citizens Bank Heritage Club, Senior Citizens 60+ Club in Floyd and Charles City Women’s club. Betty played “500” in the hospice marathon and also enjoyed playing bingo.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two children, Ray (Mary Jo) Kellogg of Tonganoxie, KS and Gerri (Jon) Grinnell of Denver, IA; six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Kellogg in 2010; parents, Charles and Mary Price; daughter, Mary Grant; granddaughter, Lindsey Grinnell; sisters, Mary Helge, Patricia Leavens and Catherine Todd and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
