Judith ‘Judy’ Jane Easterly

Judith “Judy” Jane Easterly, 94, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020 at the hospital in Charles City from complications resulting from a stroke.

A visitation will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City. A service, for family only, will be held on Thursday at the Colwell United Church of Christ.

Judy was born in Parkersburg, Iowa to her parents, Robert and Tillie Geertsema Ackerson. She was born with a twin sister, Juliet Lupkes, of Parkersburg, Iowa. Her enjoyments were her commitment to family, her love of church, and winters at their second home in Florida.

On Oct. 8, 1948, she married her forever lifelong partner, Dale, of 72 years at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They established their home together in Colwell, Iowa where she worked with her husband, Dale, at their Case Implement business where they raised their kids and then after retirement moved to Charles City.

Judy was a member of the Colwell United Church of Christ, which was a huge part of her life. She was the church organist for 20 years and sang for weddings, funerals and choir. She was a Director and Teacher for Sunday School, Bible School, music and choir. Judy was also the Junior Department Superintendent, worked on the Election Board for 20 years, was President of the Women’s Fellowship and Colwell Culture Club, and was a Notary Public.

She is survived by her husband, Dale, her sister, Juliet, and two children, Greg Easterly, married to Barb of Charles City and Pam Freiberg, married to Tom of Fort Dodge. Five grandchildren, Stephanie Freiberg, married to Ryan of Tripoli, Matthew Easterly of Charles City, Tanya Freiberg of Kentucky, Jana Woodruff of Fort Dodge and Deena McCaulley, married to Casey of Manson. And 10 great-grandchildren.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Tillie Ackerson, her brother, Bobby, and sister, Dickey.

She will forever be remembered by her unwavering faith and kindness to everyone. There will never be a sweeter soul. She touched so many lives and will be greatly missed.
