Shirley Maxine (Heitmann) Reis

Shirley Maxine (Heitmann) Reis, age 100 of Adel, IA, formerly of Charles City, IA, passed away on Oct. 28, 2020 at the Urbandale Care Center. A private burial and graveside service will be held on Friday, Nov. 6, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Shirley was born on July 7, 1920, in Charles City, IA, the daughter of John O. Heitmann and Mabel A. (Blunt) Heitmann. She was born, raised and lived in Charles City until moving to Adel five years ago. Shirley married Earl N. Reis on Jan. 28, 1939 in Charles City. She and her husband were married 60 years. Shirley worked as a babysitter for 29 families over the years. She and her husband enjoyed dancing and their favorite vacation destination was Oregon. When you visited her, you could count on being served a dinner of chicken and noodles and apple pie.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Roger E. Reis (Virginia) of Loomis, CA, and Janice (Louis) Webber of Adel, IA.; grandchildren, Roger E. Reis, Jr., Gerald N. Reis, Anjanette Richards and Michelle Puls; great-grandchildren, Monica, Shawna, Audrey, Roger III, Cierra, Paige and Quinn; great-great-grandchildren, Rory and Raina, and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Earl in 1999; sister, Thelma Koehler; brothers, Alvin and Melvin Heitmann, and stillborn great-granddaughter, Angel Rose.
