Virginia Mae Sovereign Tobin

Virginia Mae Sovereign Tobin passed away on the Lord’s day Nov. 8, 2020 in Knoxville, Iowa, due to complications from Covid-19. She was 87.

Virginia Tobin will be cremated and a private family graveside service will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Virginia Tobin was born on July 24, 1933 in Rockford, Iowa to her parents, Clark and Irene Sovereign. She graduated from Rockford High School in 1951. She married Terence Tobin on June 15th, 1953 at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford. The Tobin’s lived in Rockford and moved to Charles City where she worked as a telephone operator. She dedicated her time raising her children while working for the public schools lunch programs.

Mrs. Tobin was a member of the Carmelites at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City and was also a foster grandparent with the school system for many years. Virginia enjoyed baking, canning, trout fishing, the rosary and was a member of the Floyd County Archers throughout the 70’s.

Virginia is survived by her four sons: Thomas (Andrea) Tobin of Knoxville, Joseph (Wanda) Tobin and Patrick (Ruth) Tobin both of Houston, Texas, and David (Tracy) Tobin of Lubbock, Texas. She has seven grandchildren: Jessica Jackson, Adam Tobin, Heather Tobin, Michele Nielson, Amy Tobin, Angie Tobin, and Debora Tobin; two step-grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Lauren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Helen Tripp; husband, Terry Tobin; daughter, Mary Ann Tobin; and grandson, Daniel Lee Tobin.
