Edwin Jensen

Edwin Jensen, 93, of Charles City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021 at the MercyOne North Iowa Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 21, 2021 at The Bridge Church in Charles City with Rev. Adam Whitty of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2021 at Hauser Weishaar Funeral Home in Charles City and will continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Masks will be required and social distancing guidelines followed at both events.

Edwin Carl Jensen, the son of Wilhelm “Bernard” and Anna (Petersen) Jensen, was born Sept. 24, 1927 on the family farm in rural Hancock County, Iowa. He received his education in country schools and helped on the family farm. Edwin was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country from 1950-1952 during the Korean War.

On Sept. 25, 1954, he was married to Florine Bangert at the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake. They lived on the Jensen family farm north of Britt for 15 years before moving to Nora Springs where they owned and operated the Nora Inn. In 1965, they moved to Charles City. Edwin worked various jobs throughout his life including farming, working for Skyline Harvester, owning/running the motel, working road construction with his son, Randy and working house construction with his son, Ricky.

Living family members include two sons: Ricky (Barb) Jensen of Greene and Randy (Sandra) Jensen of Toledo, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Denise Jensen of Waukee; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren with one on the way very soon; brother, Nels Jensen of Britt, Iowa; brother-in-law, Shiray Bangert of Dayton, Iowa; along with many nieces and nephews.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Florine on Dec. 11, 2020; son, Roger; two grandsons: Brian and Brady Jensen; brother, Robert Jensen and two sisters: Christiana Bruggeman and Edith Nieman.
