William (Bill) Joerger

William (Bill) Joerger, 85, of Thousand Oaks, CA, passed away Friday, Jan. 29, 2021, after a lengthy illness.

He was born Nov. 29, 1935, in Cresco, Iowa, and was a resident of Thousand Oaks, CA, for 53 years. He served in the U.S. Army before marrying his wife, Diane (Dee) Thede. Bill was a 1953 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Charles City, IA, and went on to graduate from Iowa State University with an Electrical Engineering degree. Bill went on to a career as a computer systems engineer for 35 years.

He was active coaching Bobby Sox Softball and was instrumental in establishing girls softball fields at Los Cerritos Middle School. He was also active in Westlake High School Track Boosters and many other community efforts. He was passionate about maintaining extended family connections and planning family reunions.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Michelle (Steve) Sandborn of South Lake Tahoe, CA; son, David (Wendi) Yeager of Arvada, CO; son, Scott (Tiffany) Joerger of Scottsdale, AZ; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and brothers Gene (Marilyn) Joerger of Urbandale, IA, and Jerry (Nancy) Joerger of Charles City, IA.

Bill was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Diane “Dee” (2012), sister Ruth, and his parents Walt and Ellen Joerger.

Due to COVID restrictions, a private family memorial was held followed by a burial at Assumption Cemetery, 1380 Fitzgerald Road, Simi Valley.

Memorial donations may be made in Bill’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
