Maynard Dean Kingery

Maynard Dean Kingery (100) was born on Sept. 21, 1920 the son of Donald and Charlotte (Barth) Kingery and passed away at his home in Charles City on May 13, 2021, with his daughters by his side.

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, May 20, 1921 at the Retz Funeral Home in Greene and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. A family funeral service will be held on Friday, May 21, 2021 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene with Pastor Joan Thomas officiating. be asked to please wear a mask. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

He graduated from Greene High School in 1938. Maynard served in the United States Army during WWII from 1942-1946. He was proud to be a part of the 2009 Honor Flight.

On Feb. 15, 1947, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Ewald at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. This union was blessed with three daughters. Maynard enjoyed farming along with raising livestock. He farmed until he retired in l985.

He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene. Maynard sat on the church session and performed many church duties over the years. He was very active with the Pork Producers and was a member of the Good Sam RV Club.

He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, reading, traveling in his motor home, and rock polishing. Most of all he enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s activities and playing with his great-grandchildren. He was a kind, loving, and devoted family man.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughters: Linda (David) Keith, Rockford and Marilyn Muhle, Solon; grandchildren: Laura (Ryan) Van Roo and children Kieran and Vaughan; Janette (Nathan) Friesen and children Ellie and Evan; Angie Ostergaard; Eric (Cheri) Muhle and children Julie and Josie; Jakub (Laura) Kingery; Leah (Will) Schupp and children William, Henry and Everly; Sister Frances Wahman, Sisters-in-law: Marlys (Richard) Reynolds, Wilma VanTuyl.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years Lorraine in 2017; daughter Jolene 2003, parents, four brothers: Raymond, Leroy, Gerald, Donald Jr.

Those planning on expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the family at P.O. Box 219, Greene, Iowa.
